Introduction
Model Deformation with a Surface (MDS) is a new and efficient
technique for providing computer animations. To deform a 3D model with
traditional Free-Form Deformation (FFD) methods is a tedious work, since
the animat0rs should define and control some lattice-like structures
manually. Moreover, to keep the geometric measurement for the deformed
model is also difficult. Therefore, MDS is proposed by borrowing
the idea of texture-mapping for free-form surfaces. By using MDS,
the shape of the deformed model due to a given parametric surface can be
predicted easily, so that the animator can get his or her desirable
results more intuitively and has no necessary to place the control points
of a proper lattice.
